Parent Participation

Parent Participation

Many responsibilities exist beyond the normal team level commitments that make CLL function smoothly.  Parents are what make the program a quality experience for our children.  CLL can only be as good as we, the parents, make it.  Following are some important volunteer areas that are required during our season:

  • Volunteer Umpiring
  • Field Preparation & Maintenance
  • Fundraising
  • Snackbar
  • Scorekeeping
  • Dugout Parent

If you are willing to volunteer in any of these areas, please contact our Safety Officer Jed Casper.

Parent Orientation

Please review the Little League Baseball Parent Orientation Guide and Coronado Little League's Parent Code of Conduct.

Role of the Parent

(Copied From Little League Rule Book)

The parents of millions of Little Leaguers combined with their children, league officials, umpires, managers, coaches, and countless volunteer agencies including sponsors, represent an imposing cross-section of our world. Parents must take the initiative to make the local program successful. Little League is not a club in which membership implies babysitting benefits and entertainment privileges. Practically speaking, Little League is an adult volunteer work project constructed, supervised, and assisted by parents who want to extend this benefit to their children. Each parent should join in the total effort. There is a place and a job to do for all. The burden operating the League should not fall on a few. The parent who shirks this responsibility cannot, in turn, expect others to assume the burden.

Parent Support

Parent support during both games and practices is critically important to the success of the league. Be supportive of the team by ensuring your child attends each practice on-time. Be positive role model during games, whether you are a manager, an assistant coach, or simply a spectator. Finally, please keep the following in mind:

  • Always be positive and enthusiastic.
  • Show your child positive reinforcement.
  • Observe practices and games to learn proper techniques to practice with your child.
  • Encourage your child toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game.
  • Teach your child to always play by the rules.
  • Teach your child that hard work and an honest effort are often more important than a victory. Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team.
  • Let managers and coaches do the coaching.
  • Let an umpire be the umpire.

Parent Concerns

If you have concerns about anything regarding your team or the league, first talk to your manager.  If your concern is not resolved, then contact your Division Commissioner listed on the CLL Board of Directors page.

Parents Code of Conduct

As a CLL parent, you hereby pledge to provide positive support and encouragement for each child participating in CLL by following the Code of Conduct:
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating that I can be competitive while still being respectful to all players, parents, coaches, umpires, and other volunteers. I will ask my child/children to do the same.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of all children on all teams ahead of any personal desire to win.
  • I will insist that my child/children are in a safe, healthy, learning environment.
  • I will demand an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free sports environment.
  • I will remember that CLL is for the children and not the adults.
  • I will do all I can to make games fun and safe in the spirit of competition.
  • I understand that team rules have been established and approved by the Player Agent to enable the Manager to effectively conduct the affairs of the team in accordance with both National Little League and local league rules. I understand that my child is subject to team rules, including specific player and parent participation requirements.

I understand that CLL is a volunteer organization that requires all parents to participate in activities, such as field preparation, umpiring, snack-bar duty, scorekeeping and helping at practice.  I therefore agree to help as much as I can.
