CLL is always in need of MANAGERS and COACHES. Every team, from T-Ball through Seniors, needs a manager and 1-2 assistant coaches. If you are willing to be considered, please fill out the manager/coaches application. A committee will review all candidates and establish a list of potential appointees. The CLL President appoints all managers and coaches, subject to ratification by the Board of Directors. There is no seniority or tenure in serving as a manager or coach year to year.
Guidelines
Manager and coaches must provide a positive role model for all players. Please read and become familiar with the league's local rules for your division, codes of conduct, safety manual and tools and tips for coaching. After reviewing this, please fill out the manager/coaches agreement and return it to Jed Casper at PO Box 68119, Oro Valley AZ 85755.
Equipment Equipment will be issued on or before your first practice. We will either have an equipment day or you will receive it at your Division Managers meeting. Please bring a $50 deposit check that will be returned to you when you return your equipment. Expect a call or email regarding this in the near future. If during the season you are in need of some additional equipment, please contact Scott Reinhold. Please be prepared to return your equipment immediately following your last game or at closing ceremonies at the latest.
Uniforms
One week prior to your first game, either you or your Team Parent should contact your division commissioner to pick up your uniforms. Players and coaches are issued a cap and jersey that they can keep after the season. It is up to you as manager to decide what color pants, belt and socks they should wear.
Practice Planning
Practice time is when skills, knowledge and sportsmanship are taught. Young players' attention spans are short so practices need to be well planned and efficient. Break practices up into individual drill stations versus conducting a one hour scrimmage. Limit stations to small, manageable groups and rotate stations every 7-10 minutes. Your practice should be roughly as follows depending on the age: jog, stretch, throwing drills, agility drills, fielding drills, hitting drills, running/sliding drills, and teaching specific positions. Here is a sample practice schedule to use. A master field game/practice schedule will be posted when available.
